Onnit Vs. Perfect Keto: A Detailed Review of Their Keto Products

Disclaimer

Are you looking for supplements and snacks that support ketosis, meet your keto diet macros, and optimize your health? Well, you’re in the right place.

Three popular and proven options are medium-chain triglycerides (MCT oil), protein powder, and nut butters. In this guide, we’re going to do a thorough comparison between offerings from Onnit and Perfect Keto — two health and wellness brands that offer these products.

To help you decide which ones best meet your goals, we’ve evaluated their macros and flavors, ingredients, taste ratings, and how customers actually use them.

(Note that Onnit also used to sell an exogenous ketones supplement called Onnit Total Keto Daily. We would have liked to include that in our review, but it appears to be discontinued.)

What Are Onnit MCT Oil Supplements?

Onnit MCT oil provides your body with medium-chain triglycerides. These are quick-absorbing healthy fats that aid in weight management, minimize keto flu side effects, increase beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) ketone levels, and act as a fuel source for the brain [*][*][*].

According to Onnit, they source their MCT oils from 100% non-GMO liquid coconut oil and do not use palm oil. Currently, they offer two varieties — conventional and emulsified MCT oil. Both oils can be added to your beverages for a performance boost but emulsified MCTs mix easily for an even, non-oily coffee or smoothie. Plus, Onnit’s emulsified versions come in four different flavors.

All MCT oils are gluten-free, sugar-free, and vegan-friendly.

A note on the macronutrients:

Onnit’s unflavored MCT oil contains more dietary fat and calories per tablespoon serving than their flavored emulsified MCTs, which isn’t necessarily a good or bad thing. But still, it helps to pick one over the other depending on whether you’re purposefully maximizing your fat intake to get keto-adapted or you’re controlling your calorie intake as part of your overall weight loss goal.

Ingredients

  • Unflavored MCT Oil: Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs)
  • Creamy Vanilla Emulsified MCT Oil Non-Dairy Creamer: Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), Water, Gum Arabic, Vanilla Flavor (Ethyl Alcohol, Natural Flavors), Sorbic Acid (Preservative)
  • Creamy Coconut Emulsified MCT Oil Non-Dairy Creamer: Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), Water, Gum Arabic, Coconut Flavor (Ethyl Alcohol, Natural Flavors), Sorbic Acid (Preservative)
  • Almond Milk Latte Emulsified MCT Oil Non-Dairy Creamer: Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), Water, Gum Arabic, Almond Milk Latte Flavor (Ethyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Natural Flavors, Smoke), Sorbic Acid (Preservative), Stevia (leaf) Extract, Monk (fruit) Extract
  • Mocha Emulsified MCT Oil Non-Dairy Creamer: Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), Water, Gum Arabic, Mocha Flavor (Ethyl Alcohol, Propylene glycol, Natural Flavors, Glycerin, Coffee Extract, Cocoa Extract), Sorbic Acid (Preservative), Stevia (leaf) Extract, Monk (fruit) Extract

A note on the ingredients:

It’s good that Onnit reveals unique ingredients for each flavor in addition to the ones they have in common, like MCTs, stevia, and monk fruit extract — which are beneficial for you. For example, their Mocha flavor includes coffee extract and cocoa extract.

Taste

In terms of taste, Onnit gets mixed opinions from customers on Amazon. When it comes to their standard unflavored MCT oil, customers liked the neutral taste, especially when mixing it with fruits and vegetables that had strong flavors.

For their flavored options, Creamy Vanilla received some complaints about a “licorice” or “chemical-like” aftertaste. But, on the contrary, customers loved their Almond Milk Latte for its subtle and slightly sweet taste that’s comparable to coffee creamer.

How Customers Actually Use Onnit MCT Oil

Onnit recommends taking one tablespoon daily as a ketogenic diet supplement. If you wish, you can even use it as an ingredient in salad dressings instead of unhealthy vegetable oils that could cause inflammation. In addition, their flavored MCTs are fantastic for making flavored coffee and pre-workout smoothies.   Here are a few ways customers take Onnit MCT oils:

  • “I use this for my intermittent fasting, and it helps me not get hungry or lightheaded until my eating window at 4 pm.” – Bennett K.
  • “My husband tends to make my morning iced coffees and asked if I wanted to try it. I was hesitant. I was worried it would feel oily as I drank my coffee, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It adds the perfect touch of flavor without all the sugars and carbs of my usual flavored creamer.” – Lydia M.
  • “Perfect substitute for creamer and/or makes a great vegan Bulletproof coffee.” – Morgan M.

Onnit Vs. Perfect Keto MCT Oil Supplements

Which MCT oil is better in macros, ingredients, flavor, and taste? Is it Onnit or Perfect Keto? Certainly, there are pros and cons to each product, and it all depends on which satisfies you the most based on your preferences.

Onnit MCT Oil  Perfect Keto MCT Oil

Calories 70-130 70-80
Total Fat  7-14g 7g
Total Carbs  0-1g 3-4g

Sugars  0g 0-<1g
MCT from Coconut Oil  6.9-12.7g 10g

MCT Oil Form: Oil or Powder?

Perfect Keto offers a high-quality MCT oil powder that (unlike MCT oil in its liquid form) easily blends into your smoothies and can be used for baking keto goodies and thickening soups and sauces. We’ve also found it’s less likely to cause an upset stomach compared to the liquid.

Plus, you’ll be able to bring our powder with you wherever you go without worrying about leaks and spills, which is often the case with liquid MCTs. This makes our MCT oil powder a better choice than Onnit’s liquid MCTs in terms of versatility and portability. (Read more: MCT oil versus powder)

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto MCT Macronutrients

Perfect Keto doesn’t exceed 80 calories per serving across their MCT powders, making them suitable for people watching their calories. However, just to be clear — “calories in versus calories out” isn’t everything because the source of your calories also matters. That said, our MCT oil powders strike a perfect balance between calorie count and supplement quality.

As for the number of carbohydrates per serving, Onnit might be a better option if you’re being super strict about total carbs. Perfect Keto has 3-4 grams of total carbs per scoop, while Onnit has 1 gram of total carbs per scoop in their flavored emulsified MCTs. But either way, they don’t interfere with a state of ketosis as long as they fit your daily macros.

Perhaps a good reason to choose Perfect Keto is when you need a pre-workout supplement for high-intensity and strength training activities — since anaerobic exercises easily burn those extra carbs as an energy source[*][*].

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto MCT Ingredients

Both Perfect Keto and Onnit use high-quality ingredients for their MCT oils. All MCT oils come from real coconuts, and flavored varieties are sweetened using stevia and monk fruit. You won’t find any sugar alcohols that could potentially cause or add to digestive issues[*].

One of Perfect Keto’s important ingredients is acacia fiber, a keto-friendly fiber that supports gut health, weight loss, and blood sugar levels. So, if you’re doing the keto diet for the first time, taking our MCT oil powder may help ease any digestive discomfort — one of the temporary side effects of changing your macronutrient ratios and going keto.

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto MCT Flavor Options and Taste

Perfect Keto has seven flavors to choose from: Strawberry, Peanut Butter, Cinnamon Toast, Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Chocolate, and Matcha Latte. But if you prefer a neutral taste for soups and sauces, go for our Unflavored powder. Onnit limits their flavors to just four, namely, Creamy Vanilla, Creamy Coconut, Almond Milk Latte, and Mocha, for their emulsified MCTs.

So, Perfect Keto wins in this aspect.

And when it comes to taste, Perfect Keto received more positive reviews on Amazon. For example, one customer described our Vanilla flavor as being “insanely delicious” and that it smelled “divine.”

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto MCT Pros and Cons

As for the positives, Perfect Keto and Onnit MCT oils support ketosis — thanks to their high-quality ingredients like pure coconuts, natural keto sweeteners (stevia and monk fruit), and macros.

For the disadvantages, both brands have received some feedback for being a bit pricey. However, Onnit sells their MCTs at a lower price, especially their Unflavored MCT oil which has 47 servings per container.    You can check out Perfect Keto’s MCT oil powders here or on Amazon for more customer reviews.

What Are Onnit Protein Supplements?

Onnit’s line of protein supplements appeal to those who follow a plant-based or animal-based diet to build muscle and attain fat loss. But, according to Onnit, you still reap the same benefits whether you go for their plant-based protein or grass-fed whey protein isolate.

Their Plant-Based Protein is unlike other vegan protein powders in that it contains all essential amino acids which are normally found in dairy. So, if you happen to be dairy-sensitive, this is the right supplement for you. Meanwhile, their Whey Protein is derived from New Zealand Cows, and is particularly high in leucine in addition to being a complete source of essential amino acids.

Note that while both powders provide the same amount of protein per serving, whey protein isolate has a bit more fat and carbohydrates. Regardless, both of these keto supplements are sugar-free, as they should be.

  • Total Fat: 2g
  • Total Carbs: 5g
  • Protein: 20g

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Plant-Based Protein: Pea Protein Concentrate, Pumpkin Seed Protein, Sunflower Seed Protein, Natural Flavors, Watermelon Seed Protein, Avocado Powder 75% on Tapioca, L-Leucine, Purified Sea Salt, Steviol Glycosides, Luo Han Guo Fruit Extract
  • Chocolate Plant-Based Protein: Pea Protein Concentrate, Pumpkin Seed Protein, Cocoa Powder, Sunflower Seed Protein, Watermelon Seed Protein, Avocado Powder 75% on Tapioca, Natural Flavors, L-Leucine, Purified Sea Salt, Steviol Glycosides, Luo Han Guo Fruit Extract
  • Vanilla Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate: Sunflower Oil, Dried Cream Extract, Maltodextrin, Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil, Sunflower Lecithin, Arabic Gum, Digestive Enzyme Blend, Natural Flavors, Stevia Leaf Extract, Monk Fruit Extract, Organic Rice Hull Concentrate, Lactobacillus acidophilus
  • Mexican Chocolate Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate: Cocoa, Sunflower Oil, Maltodextrin, Dried Cream Extract, Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil, Digestive Enzyme Blend, Sea Salt, Stevia Leaf Extract, Monk Fruit Extract, Lactobacillus acidophilus

A note on the ingredients:

Notice sunflower oil as one of the ingredients used in Onnit’s grass-fed whey protein isolate. Unfortunately, this vegetable oil is high in linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that may cause inflammation and may increase your risk of heart disease[*].

We also found maltodextrin on their ingredients list. Maltodextrin is an inexpensive thickener or filler that’s high on the glycemic index. It could spike your insulin levels and even lead to poor gut health by reducing good bacteria and depleting the protective mucus layer of the gut[*][*].

We’re not saying Onnit’s products are going to wreck your health, but we are saying that these aren’t the ideal choices for healthy ingredients — even if they only occur in small amounts.

Taste

We checked Amazon reviews and read a comment about Onnit’s plant-based vanilla protein being “a bit bland” and the chocolate flavor as a better choice because it’s “delicious.” Meanwhile, their grass-fed whey protein isolate received mostly positive reviews for both flavors.

How Customers Actually Use Onnit Protein Powders

Onnit recommends mixing one scoop of their plant-based or whey protein isolate powder with water or your preferred beverage. Furthermore, they advise against using it for weight reduction on their product page.

Here’s how customers take Onnit’s protein powders:

  • “Perfect for a post-workout shake, or a snack between meals.” – Jeanette M.
  • “My 10 yr old nephew had high expectations when I offered to make him a smoothie, and I didn’t even hesitate to make him my typical breakfast shake (Onnit, Banana, Ice, Almond milk, water — secret recipe you’re welcome).” – Haley K.
  • “I used two scoops with two cups of milk and it doesn’t get thick or foaming and goes down smooth and digests really easily.” – Lyle L.

Onnit Vs. Perfect Keto Protein Powder Supplements

How do Onnit’s protein powders stack up against Perfect Keto’s? Let’s compare their macros, ingredient quality, available flavors, taste opinions from users, and some pros and cons.

Onnit Keto Protein Powder Perfect Keto Protein Powder
Serving Size 1 Scoop (26-29g) 1 Scoop (24-25.5g)
Calories 100-110 100-110
Total Fat 1-2g 4g
Total Carbs 3-5g 2-3g
Protein  21g 15g

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto Protein Powder Macros

Perfect Keto offers the fewest possible carbs, more fat, and fewer grams of protein per scoop of our grass-fed whey protein compared to Onnit. Our protein powders are better suited to meet your macros from a keto diet standpoint. (Standard keto macros are as follows: 5% or fewer calories from carbohydrates, 70-80% of calories from healthy fats, and 20-30% of calories from protein)

Feel the need to double your protein intake because you’re on a high-protein diet or struggling to meet your daily protein requirements through food only? If you go with Perfect Keto whey, we’d recommend having two scoops of our Vanilla flavor since it has only 2 grams of total carbs per scoop — so you’d get only 4 grams of carbs, 8 grams of fat, and a high 30 grams protein while still maintaining ketosis.

While Onnit has more protein per serving, it also contains more carbs than Perfect Keto, especially their Mexican Chocolate flavor (5 grams of carbs per scoop).

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto Protein Powder Ingredients

If you care primarily about ingredient quality, Perfect Keto is the way to go. We stay away from fillers and use only grass-fed whey protein isolate, natural flavor, stevia, and gum acacia.

Onnit has at least ten ingredients in their whey protein powders. Unfortunately, two of these ingredients, maltodextrin and sunflower oil, are bad for your health when consumed in large amounts. (In case you haven’t checked it out, we’ve briefly explained the dangers of these ingredients under “A note on the ingredients” above.)

On the other hand, these undesirable ingredients are absent in Onnit’s plant protein powders. Instead, they’ve used only pea protein and seed proteins to provide amino acids (in place of dairy), and then stevia and monk fruit which are natural keto sweeteners.

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto Flavor Options and Taste

Everyone’s palate and taste preferences vary, but based on reviews from customers, Perfect Keto gets more positive feedback. For example, some customers liked our Chocolate whey protein because it reminded them of chocolate milk and that they can use it in place of cocoa powder:

  • “It really tastes just like chocolate milk. I make a quick shake between workouts.” – Honey A.
  • “This is my new favorite chocolate!!! It is versatile and can be used instead of cocoa powder.” – Lux U.

When it comes to flavor choice, Perfect Keto and Onnit both have Vanilla and Chocolate.

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto Protein Pros and Cons

All protein powders support a low-carb diet. You’re less likely to get kicked out of ketosis even if you consume two scoops as long as you track your total carb intake for the day.

Onnit wins out in terms of variety by giving customers a choice between plant-based protein and whey protein isolate. Those who have dairy intolerance or personally prefer a plant-based keto lifestyle will like this option.

However, if you find whey protein more desirable for your health and fitness goal, we recommend you pick one that doesn’t contain vegetable oils like sunflower oil and maltodextrin. You’ll benefit more by taking a Perfect Keto whey protein powder, in that case.

You can explore our Vanilla and Chocolate grass-fed keto protein powders here or on Amazon.

What Are Onnit Nut Butters or “Fatbutters?”

Onnit calls their nut butters “fatbutters.” These flavorful spreads contain high-fat ingredients like macadamia nuts, coconut oil, organic chia seeds, and organic hemp seeds.

According to Onnit, this ingredient combination improves your ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids because it’s rich in omega-3s (thanks to chia and hemp seeds). (Note: A lower ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids is beneficial for avoiding chronic health issues like heart disease and cancer[*].)

You can enjoy an Onnit fatbutter as a dessert treat or ingredient in your recipes — shakes, waffles, and other baked foods — while promoting satiety because of its high fat content per serving.

Onnit fatbutters are non-GMO, gluten-free, and do not use fillers like soybean, canola, and other refined oils.

A note on the ingredients:

Onnit’s Snickerdoodle and Chocolate Hazelnut fatbutters contain erythritol, a sugar alcohol. This keto-friendly sweetener doesn’t affect blood sugar and insulin levels, although it can cause digestive side effects (such as flatulence and loose stools) when consumed daily and in large amounts[*].

Taste

Their fatbutters get mixed opinions from reviewers. We’ve found that most customers loved their Salted Almond and Peanut Butter flavors. One customer wrote that the nut butters also have a good texture. Unfortunately, some noticed a rancid taste in their fatbutters.

How Customers Use Onnit Nut Butters

Onnit suggests enjoying fatbutters as keto-friendly snacks or dessert treats. They’ve also added keto (and non-keto) recipe ideas where you can incorporate these nut butters.

Here’s how their customers report using them:

  • “I eat it plain by the spoonful. I just made keto ice cream with coconut milk, cocoa powder, monk fruit extract, vanilla extract and peanut fatbutter, and it was out of this world.” – Steve U.
  • “I add this to smoothies, and it is delicious.” – Thompson B.
  • “This on keto bread is great. Helps with my keto diet.” – Smith K.

Onnit Vs. Perfect Keto and SuperFat Nut Butters

Should you get Onnit fatbutters or Perfect Keto nut butters? Here’s our take on how to decide based on macros, ingredients, flavors and taste opinions, and some pros and cons.

Onnit Nut Butters Perfect Keto and SuperFat Nut Butters
Serving Size 2 Tablespoons (32g) 2 Tablespoons (30-32g)
Calories 180 170-210
Total Fat 15-16g 16-20g
Total Carbs 5-9g 7-10g
Net Carbs  2-7g 3-4g
Protein  4-7g 4-11g

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto Nut Butter Macros

Regardless of what flavor you choose, you can get a ton of dietary fat from both brands. However, SuperFat Macadamia Coconut would be the best nut butter for the highest fat content per serving.

But suppose you’re also optimizing your protein intake. In that case, we’d recommend the Perfect Keto Snickerdoodle nut butter with 11 grams of protein and 17 grams of fat per serving compared to Onnit’s Creamy Peanut Butter which has only 7 grams protein and 16 grams of fat.

Want the lowest net carbs per serving? Get Onnit’s Creamy Peanut butter instead, which has 2 grams of net carbs, as opposed to 3-7 grams of net carbs for the other products detailed here.

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto Nut Butter Ingredients

What makes Perfect Keto nut butters better for the keto diet than Onnit fatbutters is that we’ve added MCT oil (40% C8, 30% C10, and 30% C12) which supports energy and mental clarity.

And in case you’re wondering why we used erythritol instead of monk fruit or stevia, it’s to make better nut butter flavors and achieve textures similar to conventional high-carb nut butters.

Also, our nut butters contain dry roasted nuts that are good sources of micronutrients such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium. We never add vegetable oils that are high in omega-6 fatty acids.

Onnit strives to use only high-quality ingredients while avoiding unnecessary fillers in their fatbutters, and they make good on their promise. We’ll call it a tie overall for ingredients.

Onnit vs. Perfect Keto Nut Butter Flavor Options and Taste

Flavor-wise, both brands offer four unique flavors to choose from. One flavor that we all have in common is the Snickerdoodle. (But between the two, Perfect Keto’s Snickerdoodle has more fat, protein, fewer net carbs, and only 1 gram of sugar per serving.)

Perfect Keto also offers Chocolate Hazelnut.

As for actual feedback on taste, Perfect Keto nut butters receive more ratings on Amazon than Onnit, and one positive feedback we received was about our nut butters helping with sugar cravings.

Here’s what the customer wrote: “I have been on keto now for just about 2 months, and haven’t really craved sugar too much until recently when I started randomly wanting spoons of peanut butter. In my quest to find a nut butter with slightly less guilt, I found this sweet little ray of sunshine.” – Krey

Onnit Fatbutters vs. Perfect Keto Pros and Cons

All nut butters from Perfect Keto, SuperFat, and Onnit have an appropriate balance of keto macronutrients. They’re high-fat and low-carb. Both brands have also used high-quality ingredients, including keto-friendly sweeteners like stevia and erythritol.

In addition, Perfect Keto and SuperFat have dry-roasted their nuts to avoid frying them in vegetable oils. That’s important because vegetable oils trigger inflammation and make you sick when consumed in excess.

It’s not clear whether or not SuperFat uses a similar dry roasting process, but they don’t use vegetable oils either, which is a big plus.

The only possible caveat is if you’re trying to avoid all sugar alcohols, including erythritol, because you’re prone to experiencing digestive upset. That being so, it’s best to stick to nut butters sweetened only with stevia, such as SuperFat’s Macadamia Coconut and Onnit’s Salted Almond and Creamy Peanut fatbutters.

(Take note, however, that only about 10% of erythritol is absorbed in the colon and that it’s less likely to undergo fermentation[*]. Meaning, erythritol is better tolerated than other sugar alcohols — unless consumed in large amounts which would likely cause bloating and gas.)

Are you shopping for a delicious nut butter that supports your healthy keto lifestyle? Experience one of Perfect Keto’s nut butters or SuperFat’s nut butters for yourself.

Onnit Vs. Perfect Keto: Which Has the Best Keto-Friendly Products for Your Needs?

MCT oil, protein supplements, and nut butters help you reach your goals on a low-carb diet, whether that’s weight loss, increased energy levels, mental clarity, muscle growth, or better satiety.

But given the myriad keto products on the market, it can be tricky to decide which foods and supplements are worth it. Before buying, make sure to consider factors like the product’s macros, its ingredients, and your specific needs. Also, it helps to read customer feedback to know how they use the product and what they think of it.

If you’re always on the go or enjoy making baked recipes and smoothies, Perfect Keto MCT oil powders may be best.

Or if your goals include increasing fat loss, supporting body recomposition, or building lean muscle mass, you might prefer our grass-fed whey protein powders that are free of fillers and unhealthy ingredients.

Whenever you’re craving a low-carb sweet treat, try our well-loved Perfect Keto nut butters or Superfat nut butters.
